================================================================== This mobile text message is brought to you by AT&T

I have fallen into the void, in more ways that one.

I have many, many, many posts. And yet, I have not posted them. I think I may have to give up my need to have every post be perfect and just let them be.

But, but, but….. I don’t wanna. I want to have standards. I want things to be perfect. In this imperfect world, isn’t it OK to demand that a few small things be perfect??? Apparently not.

So I propose a compromise, smaller posts, yet more posts. Sound OK? Well it should, because that’s all you’re going to get. Let’s continue.

Here is where I would post beautiful pictures of all the wonderful things I have been knitting. But everything I have been knitting is for Christmas. And some of the people who I knit for read this blog, so unless you knit with me in real life, no pictures for you. Maybe in November I’ll do some teaser pictures, until then you’ll just have to take my word for it: I am knitting.

Wanna know what David is doing?

othello_sundown_09

Yeah, my husband is a director. If you are in the area and wanna take in some Shakespeare, go support this local theatre company. David has had quite the time putting this together and has even gotten some great reviews. Needless to say, I am quite proud of him.

Catch Up & Go

Alright, I’ve neglected this blog for far too long. I’m sorry. I have no real excuse, the TV just needs more attention, I’m thinking about putting it on medication.

So David and I didn’t move and are not moving for at least a year (we re-signed our lease this morning). Yeah, big change of plans for us. Denton is cheap(er) and moving is a pain, so we decided to stay put, pay some bills, and enjoy the good food around town. Oh, and be near our wonderful families! It was a bit depressing at first, deciding to stay, after all we were planning to go on a big adventure, but we’re excited about this one, its different, but no less an adventure.

David is currently directing his first play with a local theatre group that will go up in a little over a month.

With the help of one the  knitting Rockstars, I got a job.

Oh and I designed some knitwear (see post below). In those four months where I didn’t have a job, I got bored. (I think we may have found the cause of the TV’s dependency on my attention.) I started playing around with all that yarn I have sitting around not being used and came up with a few things. I’m still working on several of them, so it will be some time before the get the rest up but I’m really excited about getting these out into the world.

Happy Easter! David and I celebrating by going to the grandparents’ with his mom, Lisa, Aunt Melanie, cousin Candice, and her new husband Brandon. It should be nice relaxing weekend of eating, watching TV, and playing Skip-Bo.

Something New

I would like to say that it has been super busy and crazy over here… but thats just not true. David and I have been enjoying his freedom from school by staying up late, sleeping in, and general lethargy. It has been awesome! Here are a few pics we took after giving each other our gifts.

I got Cars! This was my surprise gift from David. I lost my previous copy so he got me a new one. I love this movie. I know that makes me a little sad, being that I’m almost 25, but dammit, its awesome.

David got season two of Saturday Night Live. Oh and the sleep mask thats on his head. He walked around like that for at least an hour. We are silly folk.

Speaking of which, I had a few people email me and ask me about the dog in this photo:
Valerie Working
This is Valerie. David bought her for me last year when I was having a really bad day/week. I named her Valerie because she is a Valentine’s Day puppy. David and I pretend she is real. Once I left her on the stairs with some cotton balls and told David she had an “accident.” And then another day, David left her on the couch and told me she swallowed the mail key, and it was underneath her. Did I mention we are silly?

Happy Cards & Happy Yarns

As I have gotten way behind on the blog posting I wanted to showcase the very special wedding presents I like to call “happy cards.” Happy Cards are envelopes filled with money and gift cards, forever perpetuating the fact that “good things come in small packages.”
HappyCards

All so beautiful and filled with kind words. And because we received so many gift cards, we were able to finish off our Macy’s registry! We’ve even had some left over, which has been great fun going and figuring out what else to use them on. We are being picky with which items from Williams Sonoma to pick up, its easy to be dazzled by all their gadgets when you go in there, and with the Christmas fumes, its a wonder one can leave the store! Regardless, the shopping has been fun!

I am also happy to report that I did get a job, seasonal retail. I don’t get a lot of hours, but I work with nice people and in a nice store, which is a change from the last place I worked. Hopefully this job will turn into more hours, or something better will come along, but for right now some work is better than no work at all!

To keep myself out of trouble and from ripping my hair out from boredom, I have been knitting up a storm! I finished the majority of a sweater in the month of November, as well as two scarves and knit my first real hat.
OneRowScarf3
This is David’s One Row scarf and graduation present. I made it out of (mmmm)Malabrigo Worsted Merino in Chapel Stone. The yummiest yarn in the world.

010
This is Side Slip Cloche in Blue Sky Alpaca Skinny Dyed Cotton in Pink. I really like this yarn, probably the best cotton I’ve worked with yet.

I’ll post pictures of my sweater when I can get David to take some of me wearing it (pictures of sweaters on hangers are lame) and I’ll post a picture of the other scarf I made once it has been gifted to its recipient.

For starters…

On Saturday, at 9:00 in the morning:
HPIM0667

David GRADUATED!!! WITH HONORS! SUMMA CUM LAUDE!  Oh, and he did it a semester early. Yeah, he did all that in three and a half years. He is quite the overachiever. Needless to say, we (all family included) are quite proud of him.

Now before you ask, David has applied to two graduate programs for the fall of 2009, University of Minnesota and Ohio State University. Both offer MA programs in Theatre. David wants an MA (Master of Arts) instead of MFA (Master of Fine Arts) because with an MFA you have to choose a specialty, like MFA in Performance or MFA in Directing. David wants to do it all, so an MA will suit him better. Deadline for applications is January 5th so we won’t hear from them until at least the end of January, probably February.

And the prospect of cold weather, even snow, makes me want to pack now! We are very excited to leave Texas, as we’ve both been here our whole lives. It will be nothing short of an adventure.

Promises, Promises

Wow! I’ve totally slacked off on the updates! I’m sorry for the last of news and information, it’s been a little crazy over here. I’m taking pictures and trying to get ‘em all situated, as well as clean up my house. It seems as soon as one pile gets taken care of, another one sprouts up! News and goodies, soon!

Free Time

After the last few weeks, it it nice to finally have some down time. David is in his last push ’til graduation and I, having quit my job last week, am trying to keep busy. My house is so much cleaner and on it’s way to being spotless (somewhat spotless, I’m no Martha Stewart) Here’s what I’ve been doing:
KeepingBusy
1. Cooking, trying to learn new things and using my new toys
2. Reading about cooking (some might call this “research,” but that’s a scary word)
3. Reading, I have a big stack of books that have been piling up over the last three years of working in a bookstore
4. Knitting, I have four projects on the needles that need completion sooner rather than later. Oh yeah, most of you don’t know that about me, I knit. A lot. Just ask David, he’s seen where I keep the yarn.

And now for the blog dance of the pretty presents:
SherilynnPresentSherilynnPresent 3

This came from my knitting friend Sherilynn. Its a mandolin and you have to be really careful when you use it, because you could loose a finger.

DebTadPresentMarkDebbiePresent

Our mortar and pestle came from Mark and Debbie.

PaulJoyce PresentPaulJoycePresent2

KitchenAid juicer attachement from Paul and Joyce

FredMariePresentFredMariePresent4

A wok from Fred and Marie, Kamala’s mother and stepfather. David is pretty good at cooking some Asian food like sesame chicken, so of course he needs a wok.

BobKamalaPresent1BobKamalaPresent2

KitchenAid food processor from from Bob and Kamala, David’s dad and stepmom. It’s so pretty and when I opened it I wanted something to put in it just so I could use it!

CandicePresentCandicePresent2

A whisk, spoon rest (that is much bigger than I remember), and a trivet from Candice, David’s cousin.

NoskaPresentNoskaPresent

Adorable retro recipe box from Brenda and Dennis.

DaveJeanPresentDaveJeanPresent (2)

A bowl for my KitchenAid stand mixer from Dave and Jean, my aunt and uncle. If it isn’t obvious, I really like my KitchenAid. It was acutally David’s, but seeing as I’ve used many more times than him, I have claimed ownership.

JohnBernicePresentJohnBernicePresent2

Cuisinart bread machine from John and Bernice, Lisa’s mom and dad. We’ve already made two loaves of bread with it and they turned out pretty good!

Lots of Presents

I think I need to give the UPS man cookies, this was just one day’s worth of packages!

Silence

I have been silent here for the last few days because frankly, I did not know what to write.

Last Thursday, David’s grandfather, Tom, passed away after a good, long fight with esophageal cancer. The next day, David’s great aunt, Juanita, succumbed to her good, long fight with lymphoma.

Two big losses in just two days.
